Amount of $830M Allocated Endo by International
For this settlement, Endo International has allocated an amount of $830 million for the estimated 20,000 injured women who have filed bladder mesh lawsuits. At this number, each claimant is expected to get a settlement of around $40,000. Claimants entitled to this amount would be those whose cases are handled by four law firms that Endo International came into agreement with.
In its agreement, payment of the settlement may run up to 2016. Second Bladder Mesh Settlement by Endo International PLC
This settlement announced by Endo International is actually the second such agreement made by the company in behalf of its subsidiary, American Medical Systems. In June of last year, Endo also settled an undisclosed number of mesh lawsuits for an estimated amount of $54.5 million. It was learned that the cases included in the settlement were those handled by a Houston-based lawyer and involved injured women who were implanted with the Perigee, Apogee, and Elevate brands of mesh devices.
Endo Settlement Positive Development towards Resolution Mesh Controversy
This action by one of the largest mesh manufacturers is certainly a positive indication towards the resolution of the mesh controversy that has affected thousands of women not just in the United States but all over the world. If consummated, this agreement would bring into resolution almost a fourth of all bladder mesh cases brought before American courts.
This development, along with the other settlement efforts by other manufacturers would provide encouragement to all the women who have suffered serious injuries as a result of these mesh devices. At the moment, settlement negotiations are being carried out between representatives of bladder mesh claimants and those from Coloplast A/C and C.R. Bard. In the coming months it would become clearer if the other mesh manufacturers, including Ethicon, Inc. and Boston Scientific, would go the way of Endo International.
